Lawrence Lemuel H. Fortun

Lawrence Lemuel H. Fortun is a Filipino lawyer and politician currently serving as the Mayor of Butuan, a position he assumed in 2025. Prior to his mayoral tenure, he served as the Vice Mayor of Butuan from 2022 to 2025 and as a member of the House of Representatives of the Philippines representing the 1st district of Agusan del Norte from 2013 to 2022. Throughout his career, Fortun has been a vocal advocate for human rights, the rule of law, and democratic institutional integrity, notably opposing the death penalty and the non-renewal of the ABS-CBN franchise. He holds a law degree from San Sebastian College – Recoletos and previously practiced law in Manila while serving as a legal consultant for various government departments.
