Élisabeth Baume-Schneider is a Swiss politician who has served as a member of the Swiss Federal Council since 2023. Born in Saint-Imier, she began her career as a social worker before entering politics, eventually serving in the Parliament of Jura and as a member of the cantonal government. In 2019, she was elected to the Council of States. As a Federal Councillor, she initially led the Federal Department of Justice and Police before transitioning to her current role as head of the Federal Department of Home Affairs. She is the first representative from the Canton of Jura to serve on the Federal Council.
