Lord Sentamu

John Sentamu is a British Anglican bishop and life peer who serves as a member of the House of Lords. Born in Uganda, he practiced law before fleeing to the United Kingdom in 1974, where he pursued a career in the Church of England. He served as the Bishop of Stepney and the Bishop of Birmingham before becoming the Archbishop of York and Primate of England from 2005 to 2020. Throughout his career, he has been a vocal advocate on issues of social justice, poverty, and international human rights, notably protesting against the regime of Robert Mugabe in Zimbabwe. In 2021, he was created Baron Sentamu and continues to participate in parliamentary life as a crossbench peer.
