Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş is a Turkish-Belgian politician and diplomat currently serving as the Minister of Family and Social Services in Turkey since 2023. Previously, she made history as the first woman to wear a hijab in a Belgian parliamentary assembly while serving as a member of the Brussels Regional Parliament. Her political career in Belgium was marked by her tenure as a municipal councilor in Schaerbeek and her eventual departure from the Humanist Democratic Centre party in 2015. She also served as Turkey's Ambassador to Algeria from 2020 to 2023. She holds a degree in political science from the Université libre de Bruxelles and is fluent in multiple languages.
