Manal Awad Mikhail is an Egyptian politician currently serving as the Minister of Local Development and Environment, a position she assumed in February 2026 following the merger of the two ministries. Previously, she served as the Minister of Local Development starting in July 2024 and was the Governor of Damietta, where she made history as the first female Coptic Christian governor and the second female governor in Egypt. Before her gubernatorial appointment, she served as the Deputy Governor of Giza. A veterinarian by training, she holds a PhD in Natural Sciences from the University of Alexandria and has held various academic and administrative roles within the Ministry of Agriculture.
