Marilou McPhedran

Marilou McPhedran is a Canadian politician, lawyer, and human rights advocate who has served as a member of the Senate of Canada since 2016. Appointed by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, she represents the province of Manitoba and sits as a non-affiliated senator. Throughout her career, McPhedran has been a prominent figure in systemic legal reform, co-founding organizations such as the Women's Legal Education and Action Fund (LEAF) and the International Women's Rights Project. Her work has focused extensively on human rights, constitutional equality, and the protection of women and children from violence. A recipient of the Order of Canada, she previously held academic and leadership roles, including Principal of the University of Winnipeg Global College.
