Masaaki Murata is a Japanese politician currently serving as the Mayor of Joyo City, Kyoto Prefecture. Born in 1961 in Uji, he graduated from the Kyoto Prefectural University Faculty of Agriculture. Murata spent much of his career as a civil servant for Kyoto Prefecture, specializing in civil engineering and infrastructure projects, including flood control and tunnel construction. After retiring from the prefectural government, he served as a director and later as the Deputy Mayor of Joyo City. In 2025, he was elected as Mayor of Joyo City with the support of several major political parties, pledging to continue the policies of his predecessor, Toshiharu Okuda. He is known for his interest in kendo, holding a third-dan rank.
