Hironobu Narisawa

Hironobu Narisawa is a Japanese politician currently serving his fifth term as the Mayor of Bunkyo Ward in Tokyo. Born in Hongo, Bunkyo, he began his political career in 1991 when he was elected to the Bunkyo Ward Assembly at the age of 25, becoming the youngest member in Japan at the time. He served four consecutive terms in the assembly, including two stints as its chairman. In 2007, he was first elected as Mayor of Bunkyo Ward. Narisawa is noted for his progressive social policies, including the introduction of a partnership oath system for same-sex couples in 2020. He also gained national attention in 2010 for becoming the first local government head in Japan to take paternity leave, an initiative aimed at promoting childcare participation among male municipal employees.
