Masae Ido is a Japanese politician currently serving as a member of the House of Representatives. Born in Sendai, she graduated from Tokyo Woman's Christian University and is a graduate of the Matsushita Institute of Government and Management. Before entering national politics, she served two terms in the Hyogo Prefectural Assembly. Ido is a prominent advocate for the rights of unregistered children and has been a vocal supporter of selective separate surnames for married couples, gender equality, and the introduction of a quota system. She has authored several books on social issues, including the challenges faced by unregistered individuals in Japan. Throughout her career, she has been affiliated with various political parties, including the Democratic Party of Japan and the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan, before joining the Democratic Party for the People.
