Masayoshi Yamashita is a Japanese politician currently serving as the Mayor of Tahara in Aichi Prefecture. Born in Tahara in 1949, he spent his early career as a civil servant within the Tahara municipal government, eventually serving as the director of the city's environment and education departments before retiring in 2009. He was first elected mayor in 2015 and has since secured re-election, including a third term in 2023. During his tenure, he has focused on fiscal management, including salary reductions for city officials during the COVID-19 pandemic, and social policy, such as the implementation of a partnership oath system for same-sex couples in 2022.
