He was first elected mayor in 2015 and has since secured re-election, including a third term in 2023. During his tenure, he has focused on fiscal management, including salary reductions for city officials during the COVID-19 pandemic, and social policy, such as the implementation of a partnership oath system for same-sex couples in 2022.
