Masayuki Yamashita is a Japanese politician currently serving as the Mayor of Izunokuni in Shizuoka Prefecture. A former career bureaucrat, he served in various high-level positions within the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, including Director-General of the Food Industry Affairs Bureau. He also held a senior executive role at the Japan Racing Association. Since his election as mayor in 2021, Yamashita has focused on regional revitalization, disaster prevention, and the enhancement of local healthcare and educational systems. He was re-elected unopposed in 2025 and is a recipient of the French Order of Agricultural Merit.
