Born and raised in Pontypool, he previously worked as a policy officer for a cancer charity and as a caseworker in the Welsh Parliament. Before his successful election to the Senedd, Jones was a long-time candidate for Plaid Cymru, having contested seats in the 2016 National Assembly for Wales election, the 2019 Llanbadarn Fawr-Sulien by-election, and the 2024 United Kingdom general election.
