Matthias Buschfeld is a German politician and the Lord Mayor of Bottrop, having assumed office on November 1, 2025. A member of the Social Democratic Party (SPD), he previously served as a member of the Bottrop City Council starting in 2015, where he chaired the Committee for Social Affairs, Health, and Family and led the SPD parliamentary group. Before his election as mayor, he worked as a parliamentary assistant in the Landtag of North Rhine-Westphalia. Buschfeld is also active in civil society as the president of the German Red Cross in Bottrop.
