Melanie Leonhard is a German politician who currently serves as the Senator for Economy and Innovation for the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. Since 2018, she has also served as the state chair of the SPD Hamburg, leading the party in a dual leadership role since 2021. Previously, she held various senatorial positions, including Senator for Labor, Health, Social Affairs, Family and Integration. Before her full-time political career, she worked as a research associate and in museum management, having earned a doctorate in history from the University of Hamburg.
