Before his election in Ellwangen, he served as the mayor of the municipality of Bühlertann from 2010 to 2019. Dambacher holds a degree in public administration and finance and previously worked in the city administration of Stuttgart. He is a member of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and has been active in regional political bodies, including the district council of Schwäbisch Hall.
