Michael Gianaris is an American politician and attorney currently serving as a member of the New York State Senate, representing District 12. A member of the Democratic Party, he has held his Senate seat since 2011 and previously served in the New York State Assembly from 2001 to 2010. Appointed as Deputy Majority Leader in 2019, Gianaris is known for his advocacy in antitrust enforcement, voting rights expansion, and gun control legislation. He notably played a key role in opposing the Amazon HQ2 project in New York City. He has announced he will not seek re-election in 2026.
