
Ümit Özlale
Profile
Ümit Özlale is a Turkish economist, academic, and politician currently serving as a Member of the Grand National Assembly representing Izmir. Born in Holzheim, Germany, to a family of Cretan Turkish descent, he pursued an extensive academic career, earning his doctorate from Boston College and serving as a professor at institutions including Bilkent University and Özyeğin University. A recipient of the TÜBİTAK Incentive Award, Özlale transitioned into politics, previously holding leadership roles in the İYİ Party before joining the Republican People's Party (CHP) in 2024. In December 2025, he was appointed as the Head of the Energy and Natural Resources Policy Board within the CHP's Presidential Candidate Office.
