A former special adviser to George Osborne and Theresa May, O'Brien has held various government roles, including Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Primary Care and Public Health. He is a prominent policy thinker, having founded the think tank Onward and authored reports on economic policy, housing, and education. Since July 2025, he has served as the Shadow Minister for Policy Renewal and Development.
