A member of the Labor Party, he has held the position of Minister for Planning and Public Spaces since April 2023. Prior to his political career, Scully worked as the chief operating officer of the Australian Institute for Innovative Materials at the University of Wollongong. He is married to Alison Byrnes, who serves as the federal member for Cunningham.
