Peter Heijkoop

Peter Heijkoop is a Dutch politician currently serving as the Mayor of Leiden, a position he assumed on September 19, 2024. Before his appointment as mayor, he had a long career in local government in Dordrecht, where he served as a municipal councilor, faction leader for the Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA), and alderman from 2016 to 2024. During his time in Dordrecht, he managed portfolios including social affairs, housing, and finance. He has also held leadership roles within the Association of Netherlands Municipalities (VNG) and the CDA in South Holland. Heijkoop studied health sciences at Erasmus University Rotterdam and previously worked in the healthcare and housing sectors.
