Peter Lilley is a British politician and life peer who has served as a member of the House of Lords since 2018. Previously, he was a long-serving Member of Parliament for St Albans and later Hitchin and Harpenden between 1983 and 2017. During his parliamentary career, he held several senior cabinet positions under Margaret Thatcher and John Major, including Secretary of State for Trade and Industry and Secretary of State for Social Security. A prominent Eurosceptic, Lilley was a vocal supporter of Brexit and has been involved in various policy groups, including the Common Sense Group. His earlier career included work as an energy analyst and leadership of the Bow Group think tank.
