Petra Bayr is an Austrian politician and a long-standing member of the National Council, representing the Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ) since 2002. In January 2026, she was elected President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. Throughout her career, she has focused on development policy, human rights, and gender equality, notably serving as the chair of the development policy subcommittee and as a founding member of the Austrian Platform against Female Genital Mutilation. She holds degrees in sociology and pedagogy, as well as master's degrees in human rights and legal studies.
