Philippe Close is a Belgian politician who has served as the Mayor of the City of Brussels since 2017. A member of the Socialist Party, he holds a law degree from the Université libre de Bruxelles. His political career began in the early 2000s, serving as a spokesman for Elio Di Rupo and as chief of staff to Mayor Freddy Thielemans. He was elected to the Brussels City Council in 2006 and later served as an alderman and a member of the Brussels Parliament. He assumed the mayoralty following the resignation of Yvan Mayeur.
