Rania Al-Mashat is an Egyptian economist and politician currently serving as the Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA). Previously, she held several high-level government positions in Egypt, including Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation, Minister of International Cooperation, and Minister of Tourism. Before entering government, she had a distinguished career as an economist at the International Monetary Fund and as a sub-governor at the Central Bank of Egypt. She is widely recognized for her expertise in monetary policy, international economic cooperation, and sustainable development.
