Before her mayoral tenure, she served as a Tucson City Council member from 2007 to 2019 and worked as a program coordinator for Pima County. Romero is known for her focus on urban infrastructure, climate change initiatives, and social justice issues. She holds a degree from the University of Arizona and a postgraduate certificate from the Harvard Kennedy School.
