Robert Abela is a Maltese lawyer and politician serving as the Prime Minister of Malta and leader of the Labour Party since January 2020. The son of former Maltese President George Abela, he studied law at the University of Malta and graduated in 2002 before working in his family's law firm specializing in industrial and labour law. He was elected to the Parliament of Malta in 2017 representing the sixth district and subsequently succeeded Joseph Muscat as prime minister following a leadership election in January 2020, leading his party to consecutive electoral victories in 2022 and 2026.
