Sanae Takaichi is a Japanese politician serving as the Prime Minister of Japan and President of the Liberal Democratic Party since October 2025. As the first woman to hold these positions in Japanese history, she has established a coalition government with the Japan Innovation Party. A long-time member of the House of Representatives, Takaichi previously held several cabinet posts, including Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications and Minister of State for Economic Security. Known for her conservative views, she supports proactive government spending, the strengthening of the US-Japan alliance, and constitutional revision. Her administration has focused on economic security and national resilience, securing a historic supermajority in the 2026 general election.
