Satsuki Katayama is a Japanese politician and former bureaucrat who currently serves as a member of the House of Councillors. A graduate of the University of Tokyo, she began her career at the Ministry of Finance, where she became the first woman to serve as a budget examiner in the Budget Bureau. Entering politics in 2005, she has held several high-profile positions, including Minister of Finance and Minister of State for Regional Revitalization, Regulatory Reform, and Gender Equality. Known for her conservative policy stances, she has been a prominent advocate for administrative and fiscal reform, the promotion of national strategic special zones, and the establishment of national qualifications for animal nursing. She is recognized as the first woman in Japanese history to serve as Minister of Finance.
