Previously, she represented the constituencies of Gateshead East and Washington West and Washington and Sunderland West starting in 2005. In March 2026, she was appointed Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Public Health and Prevention. Throughout her career, she has held various shadow ministerial roles and served on several select committees. Hodgson is a member of the Labour Party and is known for her work as a vice-chair of Labour Friends of Israel.
