Shinya Hamasaki is a Japanese politician currently serving as the Mayor of Kunitachi, Tokyo. Born in Chiba City to parents from Amami Oshima, he graduated from the Faculty of Law at Hitotsubashi University in 2008. Before entering politics, he had a distinguished career as a bureaucrat at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, where he held various roles related to urban planning and transportation policy. He also worked as a strategy manager at PwC Consulting. In December 2024, he was elected as the Mayor of Kunitachi after defeating the incumbent candidate, campaigning on a platform focused on community development and local governance.
