Shinako Tsuchiya

Shinako Tsuchiya is a veteran Japanese politician serving as a member of the House of Representatives. Born in Tokyo and raised in Saitama, she initially gained public recognition as a television personality before entering politics. Over her long career, she has held several high-level government positions, including Minister for Reconstruction and Minister in charge of the Fukushima Nuclear Accident Reconstruction, as well as serving as State Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare and State Minister of the Environment. Tsuchiya is known for her support of selective separate surname systems for married couples and has been an active advocate for gender equality and food education. She is the daughter of the late Yoshihiko Tsuchiya, a former President of the House of Councillors and Governor of Saitama Prefecture.
