Shintaro Kakehi is a Japanese politician currently serving as the Mayor of Inashiki, Ibaraki Prefecture. Born in 1968 in what is now Inashiki, he graduated from Nihon University with a degree in civil engineering. Before entering politics, he worked for several construction companies and served as a secretary to House of Representatives member Yasuhiro Hanashi. Kakehi began his political career as a member of the Inashiki City Council in 2014. He was first elected mayor in 2018 following the death of his predecessor and was re-elected unopposed in 2022. During his tenure, he has focused on municipal administration, including implementing fiscal measures such as salary reductions for city officials to fund local COVID-19 countermeasures.
