Shinya Adachi is a Japanese politician and physician currently serving as the Mayor of Oita. Before entering politics, he had a distinguished career in medicine, serving as a department director at the Tsukuba Medical Center Hospital and as a lecturer at the University of Tsukuba. He previously served three terms in the House of Councillors, where he held roles including Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare and Secretary-General of the Democratic Party for the People. As a politician, he has focused on social security and health policy, notably contributing to the implementation of the direct payment system for childbirth and childcare lump-sum grants.
