Simon Opher

Simon Opher is a British Labour Party politician and general practitioner who has served as the Member of Parliament for Stroud since the 2024 general election. Before entering politics, he worked as a GP for nearly thirty years and was a pioneer in social prescribing, founding the Artlift scheme to improve patient mental health through creative activities. In Parliament, Opher focuses on health, climate change, and poverty, advocating for environmental policies as public health interventions. He is a member of the soft left of the Labour Party and has been a vocal supporter of assisted dying legislation and cross-party cooperation on climate and nature recovery.
