Koichi Munekiyo is a Japanese politician serving as a member of the House of Representatives. Born in Higashiosaka, Osaka, he began his career working for the office of LDP lawmaker Shojiro Shiokawa before serving two terms in the Osaka Prefectural Assembly. First elected to the national Diet in 2014, he has held several government positions, including Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry and Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Reconstruction. Munekiyo has previously served as the chairman of the LDP Osaka Prefectural Federation. He is known for his opposition to the introduction of selective separate surnames for married couples and is a member of several pro-tobacco parliamentary leagues. In 2024, he was involved in a political funding scandal regarding undisclosed party revenue but was ultimately cleared of criminal charges by the Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office.
