Susan Close

Susan Close is an Australian politician and environmental advocate who has served as a member of the South Australian House of Assembly since 2012. A member of the Australian Labor Party, she previously served as the Deputy Premier of South Australia from 2022 to 2025 and held various ministerial portfolios, including Education, Environment, and Industry. Before entering politics, she worked as an executive director in the South Australian public service and with several conservation organizations. She has been a prominent advocate for climate action, education reform, and social policy, including early efforts to legalize same-sex marriage in South Australia. She has announced her intention to retire from politics at the 2026 state election.
