Sylvia Lucas is a South African politician serving as a member of the National Assembly of South Africa. A long-time member of the African National Congress, she previously served as the Premier of the Northern Cape from 2013 to 2019 and as the Deputy Chairperson of the National Council of Provinces from 2019 to 2024. Her career began in local government and community activism in Upington, eventually leading to her appointment as a Member of the Executive Council for Environment and Nature Conservation in the Northern Cape provincial government. In her current role in the National Assembly, she chairs the Joint Standing Committee on Intelligence.
