Toru Doi is a Japanese politician serving as a member of the House of Representatives, currently in his sixth term. Born in Miyagi Prefecture, he began his political career as a member of the Miyagi Prefectural Assembly before being elected to the national Diet. Throughout his career, he has held significant government roles, including Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, State Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, and State Minister for Reconstruction. He has also served as Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. Politically, Doi is known for his conservative stances, supporting constitutional reform, including the explicit mention of the Self-Defense Forces in Article 9, and opposing the introduction of selective separate surnames for married couples.
