Takashi Watanabe is a Japanese politician currently serving as the Mayor of Higashimurayama, a position he has held since 2007. Born in Nakano, Tokyo, and raised in Higashimurayama, he graduated from Ibaraki University before working for a subsidiary of NEC. Prior to his mayoral career, he served four terms as a member of the Higashimurayama City Council, including a tenure as its chairman. Throughout his political career, he has been supported by various political groups, including the Liberal Democratic Party and Komeito. In addition to his mayoral duties, he assumed the role of Chairman of the Tokyo Association of City Mayors in 2023.
