Taku Ishii

Profile

Taku Ishii is a Japanese politician currently serving as a member of the House of Representatives for the Aichi 13th district. A graduate of Ritsumeikan University, he previously worked in business consulting before entering local politics, where he served two terms each in the Hekinan City Council and the Aichi Prefectural Assembly. Ishii was first elected to the national Diet in 2021 and later served as a Parliamentary Vice-Minister in the Cabinet Office and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. Politically, he supports constitutional revision, including the explicit mention of the Self-Defense Forces in Article 9, and maintains conservative stances on social issues such as opposing selective separate surnames for married couples and same-sex marriage. He has faced scrutiny regarding his past ties to the Unification Church and issues concerning political funding.
