Taro Matsumoto is a Japanese politician currently serving as the Mayor of Hatsukaichi City in Hiroshima Prefecture. Born in 1969, he holds a master's degree in civil engineering from the Hiroshima Institute of Technology. Before entering politics, he worked in the private sector. Matsumoto served four terms as a member of the Hatsukaichi City Council before being elected mayor in 2019. He was re-elected to the position in 2023. During his tenure, he has focused on local administrative management, including implementing fiscal measures such as salary reductions for city officials to fund COVID-19 countermeasures.
