Ted Lieu is an American politician and lawyer serving as the U.S. Representative for California's 36th congressional district since 2023, having previously represented the 33rd district. Born in Taiwan and naturalized as a U.S. citizen, he served in the United States Air Force Judge Advocate General's Corps and later in the Air Force Reserve, attaining the rank of colonel. Before his federal career, Lieu served on the Torrance City Council and in both the California State Assembly and State Senate. A member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, he is known for his legislative work on public safety, environmental protection, and government accountability. He currently serves as vice chair of the House Democratic Caucus.
