Tomikazu Fukuda is the Governor of Tochigi Prefecture, currently serving his sixth consecutive term. Born in 1953 in what is now Nikko City, he began his career as a Tochigi prefectural government employee before entering politics. He served as a member of the Utsunomiya City Council and the Tochigi Prefectural Assembly, followed by two terms as the Mayor of Utsunomiya. Since his first election as governor in 2004, he has focused on regional development, including the promotion of the Utsunomiya Light Rail Transit system and various infrastructure projects. As a long-serving governor, he emphasizes sustainable social security and regional health promotion. He remains a prominent figure in Tochigi politics, maintaining an independent political stance while receiving support from major political parties.
