Toru Sumitani is a Japanese politician currently serving as a member of the Akita Prefectural Assembly, representing the Yuzawa City and Ogachi District constituency. He has been elected to the assembly twice. Motivated by his experiences in the Junior Chamber International, he entered politics to address the lack of youth representation and to advocate for sustainable community development. His policy priorities include the revitalization of Akita's agriculture and forestry sectors, as well as the promotion of renewable energy projects such as geothermal and offshore wind power.
