Turgut Altuğ

Turgut Altuğ is a German politician serving as a member of the Abgeordnetenhaus of Berlin. Born in Tarsus, Turkey, he studied political science and agricultural sciences before moving to Germany in 1992, where he later earned a doctorate from the University of Hohenheim. Altuğ founded the Turkish-German Environmental Center in 2009 and was awarded the Integration Medal by the German government in 2010. Initially a member of Alliance 90/The Greens, he was first elected to the Berlin House of Representatives in 2011. In late 2025, he left the Green party and joined the Social Democratic Party (SPD). Throughout his parliamentary career, he has focused on nature conservation, environmental education, and agricultural policy.
