Sakura Uchikoshi is a Japanese politician and lawyer currently serving as a member of the House of Councillors, representing the Niigata Prefecture constituency. Before entering politics, she practiced law with a focus on domestic violence relief, child abuse prevention, and gender equality issues. First elected in 2019 and re-elected in 2025, she is known for her advocacy regarding selective separate surnames for married couples and the legalization of same-sex marriage. She has also served in the Constitutional Democratic Party's 'Next Cabinet' as the shadow Minister of Justice.
