A prominent legal figure, he gained national recognition for his work as a special public prosecutor in high-profile terrorism and criminal cases, including the 1993 Bombay bombings, the 2008 Mumbai attacks, and the 2013 Mumbai gang rape case. In 2016, he was awarded the Padma Shri for his contributions to the field of law. After an unsuccessful bid for the Lok Sabha in 2024, he was nominated to the Rajya Sabha in 2025.
