Vijayalakshmi Gadwal

Gadwal Vijayalakshmi is an Indian politician currently serving as the Chairperson of the Telangana Women's Commission. Previously, she served as the Mayor of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation from 2021 to 2026, becoming the first woman to hold the position following the formation of the state of Telangana. A former American citizen who worked as a research scholar at Duke University Hospital, she returned to India to pursue a political career. She was formerly affiliated with the Bharat Rashtra Samithi before joining the Indian National Congress in 2024.
