A member of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), he has held various leadership roles within the party, including serving as the chairman of the CDU district association in Erfurt since 2020 and as deputy state chairman of the party since 2024. Before his election to the state parliament, he practiced law in Erfurt and served as a member of the Erfurt City Council. Additionally, he previously served as a deputy member of the Constitutional Court of Thuringia from 2003 to 2024.
