Yosuke Kondo is a Japanese politician currently serving as the Mayor of Yonezawa. Born in Washington D.C. to a political family, he began his career as a journalist at the Nihon Keizai Shimbun before entering national politics. He served five terms as a member of the House of Representatives, during which he held positions such as Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry. A former member of the Democratic Party and the Democratic Party of Japan, he is known for his conservative leanings on constitutional reform and national security policy. After losing his parliamentary seat in 2017, he transitioned to local politics and was elected Mayor of Yonezawa in 2023.
